3 Pillars of Success

The 3 Pillars of Success are the foundation of building a winning organization. They are the defining elements that are measured and combined to provide a true assessment of a person's potential for success in their work environment. It is Sports Aptitude's fundamental belief that an individual's success is derived from the unique interaction of "The 3 Pillars of Success". Taking a look at each Pillar independently gives us an overall snapshot of how a person stacks up against others when compared on each individual dimension.

As part of Sports Aptitude's team services, an organization's team personnel are profiled against their peers in the three pillars of Physical, Mental, and Environmental. Each pillar of success is based on a bell curve that is a 1 to 10 rating measuring 1) PHYSICAL - What can I do skills-wise, 2) MENTAL- What role am I best suited for personality-wise, and 3) ENVIRONMENTAL- What are the other skills and personalities within my work environment. Each of the bell-curves only takes into consideration how personnel measure up against others within their profession, organization, and/or specific team role.

Pillar 1: PHYSICAL

The PHYSICAL Pillar measures a person's skill-level versus other personnel. On the skill/athleticism bell-curve above, the rating takes into account a player's athleticism rank and his skill level in sport-specific areas that are particular to the given role. Opinion on where personnel are positioned on this curve often varies between evaluators because organizations and evaluators within those organizations have their own scouting and evaluation methods. In order to effectively rank a person on the PHYSICAL Pillar, the organization requesting an evaluation will be responsible for ranking the desired personnel on the "skill/athleticism" curve.

Pillar 2: MENTAL

The MENTAL pillar measures a person's overall personality/behavior strengths and weaknesses based on the ideals for his/her role. This should not be confused with an assessment of intelligence. This MENTAL rating gauges a individual's personality and measures how they apply themselves to their role in terms of attitude and effort. In the Sports Aptitude Assessment, the MENTAL Pillar is broken down into situation-specific categories, known as the Critical Core Dynamics (CCDs). There are four seperate report types, Personnel Profile, Team Integration, Communication Tendencies, Leadership Style. Each report contains CCDs that help get an accurate measure the key behavioral tendencies necessary to improve all areas of group performance and interaction.

The ENVIRONMENTAL Pillar measures "goodness of fit" or how well a persons PHYSICAL and MENTAL aptitude for their team role matches the group environment they'll have to perform in. By taking the collective Sports Aptitude Assessment ratings of all the key personnel in an organization, we are able to gauge how well the essential pieces fit the roles they are expected to fulfill. This is a true measure of "team chemistry." The SA portal gives the user the ability to capture and record specific workgroups and utilize first-hand experience to capture, measure, and match one groups performance success for use in future team building.

The ENVIRONMENTAL Pillar is broken down into two categories.

  • Internal Factors
    • Team compatibility- if/how does the person fit in with the other individuals in their group
    • Organizational compatibility- if/how is the person aligned with the organization's philosophy and goals
  • External Factors
    • Media intensity- how a person reacts or is suited for media attention/scrutiny
    • Fan Pressure- how does a person thrive under the demands of the fan base
